Screwed up at work? Here is how to fix it!

Sent a Virus to your whole company? Boss caught you going for a job interview? Relax. Our survival guide can help you out of the stickiest work situations.

Career crisis: Caught going to another interview?
When you start job-hunting, you have to lead a double life to cover your tracks. But even if you are the best liar in the world, it does not help when you bump into your manager wearing your best suit when you are supposed to be decorating your grandmother’s flat.

Emergency response: Surprisingly, being honest is the best tactic here. Come clean and admit that you are talking to someone about another job, but make sure she knows it was an opportunity you could not ignore. If you can imply that they approached you, so much the better!

Long-term recovery plan: Professor Ranganathan, head of organisational psychology and health at the Chennai institute Management School, maintains that being caught job-hunting could actually be beneficial. It gives you an opportunity to explain why you are unhappy in your job and why you are thinking of leaving. It will also remind your boss that other companies are interested in you and could help you negotiate a better salary or a more challenging role.

Career crisis: Your ex joins the company
One morning, the ex from hell appears as your new co-worker. The classic situation could easily happen to you – especially if you met your ex through your previous job. After all, 66 per cent of people have had a romantic fling with someone they have worked with.

Emergency response: Make sure you look fantastic, then saunter past, laughing suggestively on your mobile. When the boss introduces him to your colleagues, remain professional, but allude to having known him ‘out of work’. It will make you seem more interesting and will make him look like a bit of a stalker.

Long-term recovery plan: The big problem here is if it was a bad break-up, which could have an effect on your working relationship, it is better to tell your boss so colleagues are aware of the situation and you can all deal with it like adults.

Career crisis: Ruining your clothes before a big meeting
It is the big day and you have dropped your lunch all over the outfit you had carefully planned. You no longer look professional.

Emergency response: Try and get hold of a scarf, as the chances of removing the evidence are unlikely. Try and position the scarf(Dupatta) in such a way that you hide the mess. A colleague can come to your assistance by lending you one for the meeting.

Long-term recovery plan: Keep a spare top in the office when you are about to have your next presentation. Even if you never have to use it, you could rescue another colleague, and grab a few bonus points too.
